La mesure colorim\u00e9trique de la DCO est plus rapide et plus facile \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser que l&rsquo;analyse titrim\u00e9trique ; des r\u00e9actifs suppl\u00e9mentaires ne sont pas n\u00e9cessaires. L&rsquo;\u00e9chantillon est ajout\u00e9 au flacon de r\u00e9actif et dig\u00e9r\u00e9 dans des conditions de reflux ferm\u00e9 et laiss\u00e9 refroidir avant que la mesure ne soit prise. Des \u00e9talons de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence peuvent \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en utilisant de l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e9nophtalate de potassium (KHP), 1 mg de KHP est \u00e9gal \u00e0 1,175 mg de DCO.<\/p>\n<p>La DCO est utilis\u00e9e comme mesure des polluants. Elle est normalement mesur\u00e9e dans les usines de traitement des eaux us\u00e9es municipales et industrielles et donne une indication de l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 du processus de traitement. La DCO est mesur\u00e9e \u00e0 la fois dans l&rsquo;eau entrante et l&rsquo;eau effluente. L&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 du processus de traitement est normalement exprim\u00e9e en \u00e9limination de la DCO, mesur\u00e9e en pourcentage de la mati\u00e8re organique purifi\u00e9e au cours du cycle.
