Cette mesure est tr\u00e8s importante pour d\u00e9terminer les caract\u00e9ristiques corrosives de l&rsquo;eau dues principalement aux ions hydroxyde, carbonate et bicarbonate. D&rsquo;autres sources d&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 peuvent provenir d&rsquo;anions hydrolysables tels que les phosphates, les silicates, les borates, les fluorures et les sels de certains acides organiques. L&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 est essentielle dans le traitement de l&rsquo;eau potable, des eaux us\u00e9es, des syst\u00e8mes de chaudi\u00e8re et de refroidissement et des sols.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 peut \u00eatre mesur\u00e9e en tant qu&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 \u00e0 la ph\u00e9nolphtal\u00e9ine et alcalinit\u00e9 totale. La quantit\u00e9 d&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;eau est principalement due au bicarbonate\/carbonate pr\u00e9sent. Un faible niveau d&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 indique que l&rsquo;eau est sensible aux changements de pH, tandis qu&rsquo;un niveau d&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9 indique que l&rsquo;eau sera capable de r\u00e9sister aux changements de pH. L&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 peut \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour d\u00e9terminer la capacit\u00e9 corrosive de l&rsquo;eau et peut fournir une estimation de la duret\u00e9 de l&rsquo;eau.<\/p>\n<p>La surveillance des concentrations d&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9, de chlorure, de duret\u00e9, de phosphate, de pH et de sulfite dans la chaudi\u00e8re et l&rsquo;eau d&rsquo;alimentation est essentielle pour \u00e9viter les situations dangereuses ou co\u00fbteuses. Dans l&rsquo;eau de mer, le bicarbonate est le principal contributeur \u00e0 l&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 et est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 des coraux. Les coraux ont besoin de bicarbonate et de carbonate disponibles pour former leur squelette.<\/p>\n<p>Selon les tests d&rsquo;eau de piscine et de spa, l&rsquo;alcalinit\u00e9 est la mesure de la concentration totale de substances alcalines, principalement des bicarbonates, dissoutes dans l&rsquo;eau.
