Importance of pH balanced skincare

Our skin is made of layers, and their purpose is to protect our body. Each of this layers has a specific pH that is keeping everything in balance. When your skin barrier isn’t functioning properly (if the pH is too low – acidic, or too high – alkaline), you may be more prone to developing the skin conditions (itchiness, acne, infections).
Why pH of skincare
is so important?
With having in mind that purpose of skincare is to be applied and absorbed by our skin, it acts as a pH adjuster or modifier to our skin’s pH.
pH-balanced skincare refers to products that mimic skin’s natural pH—not too basic, not too acidic—to keep its acid mantle (a.k.a. skin’s barrier function, which protects against bacteria, irritants, and stressors) happy and healthy.
Quality products
are not characterized
by smell, appearance
or price, but by
their composition.
What is pH?
pH is a figure expressing the acidity or alkalinity on a logarithmic scale in which 7 is considered neutral, lower values are more acid and higher values more alkaline. The pH is equal to −log10 c, where c is the hydrogen ion concentration in moles per litre.

SKIN GOALS

ACIDIC

Redness, Breakouts
and Irritation
A pH less than 7 is acidic.

NEUTRAL

A pH of 7 is neutral.

BASIC

Dryness and
Signs of Aging
A pH greater 7 is basic.
You need to know the exact pH of your product
The same way these type of products are not diluted before application, they should not be measured in diluted form.
Typical pH values of most common cosmetic products in the market:
  • Cleansers: pH 4.5–7
  • Toners: pH 5–7
  • Sunscreens: pH 5–7.5
  • AHA and BHA Exfoliants: pH 3.2–3.9
  • Moisturizers: pH 5–7
  • Serums: pH 4–6
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) products:
    pH 2.6–3.2
  • Retinol products: pH 4–6.6
For pH measurements of creams & emulsions Hanna has formulated special pH probes.

HI2202 edge®

blu Bluetooth®
Smart pH Electrode and Meter
Free yourself from wires when performing pH measurements. Hanna Instruments is proud to introduce edge®blu, a pH meter that uses pH electrodes with Bluetooth® Smart technology (Bluetooth 4.0). These pH electrodes connect wirelessly to edge blu or a compatible Apple or Android® device running the Hanna Lab App.
  • edge®blu uses HALO™ Bluetooth pH electrodes with a built-in temperature sensor to send measurement data wirelessly to the meter or a compatible Apple or Android device running the Hanna Lab App.
  • edge®blu features advanced pH electrode diagnostics to ensure worry free measurements. Diagnostics include Hanna’s exclusive CAL Check feature that alerts users to potential problems during calibration.
  • edge®blu features a capacitive touch keypad that gives a distinctive, modern look. The keypad is sensitive enough to be used with laboratory gloves and has a fast response.

Bluetooth Digital pH Electrodes
edge®blu uses HALO® Bluetooth digital pH electrodes. Once a probe is connected, all sensor information including sensor operating specifications and calibration information is transferred. pH electrodes are easy to exchange when you want to change from measuring with one type to another without the need for recalibration.
Accurate and easy to use, HALO2 Wireless pH Tester for Cosmetic Creams is ideal for measurements in samples that would be a challenge for standard design pH electrodes. The HI9810432 features a non-porous, glass body that is easy to clean and withstands harsh chemicals.

HALO2 pH Meter for Cosmetic Creams
Refillable electrode
The triple ceramic junction allows a higher flow rate of electrolyte from the reference cell into the solution. This high flow rate provides faster electrode response and a more stable measurement in viscous solutions or samples of low conductivity. The triple junction design prevents both clogging and any potential precipitation of silver at the junction. The fill solution will diffuse through the ceramic junction as it is used.
The HI9810432 can be used as a stand-alone pH tester or can be connected to compatible smart device with the Hanna Lab App via integrated Bluetooth.
Designed to bring simplicity to pH testing, the HALO2 Cosmetic Creams pH Tester (HI9810432) is engineered for use with cosmetic creams to ensure it meets safety standards.
  • Open-source Bluetooth allows easy integration into current data logging systems
  • IP65 water resistant protection
  • Specialized electrode for spot checking the pH of cosmetic creams
  • Equipped with everything you need for successful testing right out of the box
Cleaning Solution for Cosmetic Cream Deposits
Your Cosmetic Creams pH Tester comes with cleaning solution that has been engineered to keep your electrode free from build up. This concentrated combination of detergents cleans your tester quickly and effectively so that your tester stays in optimum condition.
Easy Calibration
HALO2 can be placed right into our calibration buffer sachets for easy calibration. Using a Hanna calibration sachet ensures your buffer is always fresh.
Storage Solution
Proper storage of your electrode will ensure reliable measurements and a long electrode life. Our storage solution is specially formulated to keep the pH glass hydrated while minimizing organic growth.
